I don't contest that they could've done plenty wrong. Yet people here are making a lot of assumptions though. Probably safe assumptions but still assumptions nonetheless. It's interesting to hear input from actual legal and law enforcement professionals and their legitimate concerns (as you have relayed), but not so interesting to hear people being armchair critics who assume they can think of things they presume these "creep catchers" missed. I imagine they at least tried to do due diligence on these things. At the very least they ought to be aware of their potential to be sued for libel if they did it wrong.

I saw the guy's picture, that tells me all I need to know. Not exactly a paragon of sophistication. I'm pretty sure they did not give the situation a whole lot of thought, and that they are just doing this for shits and giggles.

a guy at work was having sex with a fourteen year old,
he got caught fired charged.
moved away out of jurisdiction his wife stayed with him through it all.
he was charged but it never went to court though, some technicality im not sure. or just his word against hers.

this opens up a whole can of worms, you can look at it from all sides.
but kind of everyone is too blame, mostly the ass hole, who did, he should get the max no sympathy for him what so ever.

but you know you even have to question the family life of the girl involved, during summer we hire a lot of part time kids I mean kids. this is were the guy groomed her and met her, but most girls won't even look at an older guy, were just that an older guy, and if we look at them to long were some kind of pervert and creep. most girls honestly won't have nothing to do with an old guy,
she was lonely and in need of attention

honestly to god. some young girl looks at me, or has time for me, red flags go up so fast, but the kid is lonely vulnerable. and you have to ask the question what is going on in that house.

Who..the pedo or the creep catcher ??? I doubt CC cares much about due diligence, he's just interested in outing the "creeps" in hopes of putting an end to thier perversion... Probably will scare the shit out of some of them to the point they will not repeat, especially if they were first timers. Some of the repeat offenders will probably not be scared off, but will exercise a bit more "due diligence" to not get caught up in a sting again.....CC or otherwise. So while doing some good....I guess it's fair to say they might also be doing harm, particularly in making investigations harder. Overall though, when you look at some of the paranoia shown here when the laws in regards to this industry were changed, I say..let them scare the shit out of as many as they can. End of the day, if you can prevent a dozen at the expense of losing one..it's still a plus.
