Is this why we aren't getting the earthquakes that we should be? Look at the blue on the map. We are blue. We haven't had the quakes that we should have. Look at the red. Yep, they got their quakes.

This could be quite important.

However, we may still get the quakes that we "should have." They have happened before in the historical record AFAIK. The fault off of Vancouver island near Tofino will probably be the most extreme and last let go in the 18th century.

The native story about what happened was basically "we were out fishing, we heard a very loud bang and when we looked back to the land our village was gone." There was a similar story from the same time period about a massive tsunami hitting the coast of Japan.
