now my stereo just died ... had a power outage, everything else is working fine but the stupid stereo is toast ... push power button ... nothing! unplug and try different plug ... nada. tried remote ... pft.

no reset button anywhere ...

okay: need cheap replacement ... less than $500 preferred.

and i'm running speakers that are older than most of you so i don't need the latest and greatest ... listen to the Stones and watch the occasional dvd.

check out how much it cost to fix first. Maybe a fuse or something.

I bought this little bad boy for my computer room. Cheap, tons of inputs, and sounds pretty good for $200

thanks for the info ... i think the old one is toast -- it has been fading out for years and i think this finally just toasted it ... wasn't much to begin with so happy to see it gone!

may look at the harmon kardon for $399!

your mom says hi.
good pick with the harmon kardon but don't over look the denon stuff as well. i think best buy has a nice entry level denon receiver for around 400. get a surge protector too or a clean power surge protector so it doesn't happen again.

Simply, the Universe is telling you it's time to move on Ghost. Is there anything else that needs to be renewed?

i have everything i own plugged into surge protectors ... the 'amp' was fading in and out for years and it would power itself off and on without anyone touching it.

it is really a 'pos' that isn't worth the price of a fuse -- terrible sound, lousy features ... i've just been using it because it was there ... now its not! :)

time for something a little better.

LG,most of the big box stores still have sales on and you could get yourself a new years present on the cheap,,,,,,Visions has a JVC/500 watt surround reciever on for $122  loaded with all the bells and whistles, look around ,youll find something that suits you.
And for fuck sake, while your there get a couple new bookshelf speakers for an extra 200 bucks, use your old ones for surrounds and you have the start of a little home theater:D
Happy New years

Edit - I think thats the same one Hitrack linked to ,good deal for what it's loaded with.

i ended up with the HK 135 ... a little more $$ but they had it in stock and its already home and set-up ... huge improvement over the POS i had and yeah, some speakers are on the wish-list.

Lots of good advice here!

Good choice! I have always preferred the HK over the Denon. I got my latest HK at Value Village for $35 and it weighs a ton and works like a charm.
