John Elway of the Denver Broncos and Barry Sanders of the Detroit Lions were both introduced into the Pro Football Hall of Fame this morning live on ESPN I watched the 3 hour show and it was awesome John Elway is the greatest QB to ever play the game he won 2 SuperBowls being named the MVP of the game in January 1999 @ SuperBowl XXXIII going out on top in his last game. He had the most come from behind wins in NFL history. Barry Sanders was the greatest running back of alltime, he retired in 1999 at the age of only 31.

Barry Sanders is definately the best. He never played on a good team, he was basically the team other than Herman Moore that had a good year or two. You have to respect someone to leave in their prime when they are so close to the rushing record.

Emmit Smith on the other hand played for the powerful Cowboys during this prime and that an offensive line that weighed in at more than 300 pounds each. But he stuck around just to break the record and is still playing with diminished skills. Come on, it is time for him to hang it up.

Okay, the Emmit bit is a off topic a bit.

Emmit Smith should retire, he doesn't even get to carry the ball that much with the Arizona Cardnials and the Cards aren't going to be a great team either fo awile.

Elway was a great QB, but I wouldn't say he was the best of all time. Terell Davis was the reason Denver won those 2 superbowls, not Elway. It wa only when Denver had a great RB that the SB's were won.

Barry was definately one of the best (along with Sweetness and Brown), and a much better RB than emmitt.

John Elway was the main reason Denver won their 2nd SuperBowl after all he was the games MVP.

Sure he was the MVP for that one.....ask yourself why Elway lost his first 3 superbowls (by blowouts no less)? At least three QB's have better SB records than Elway. For that reason alone I would not call him the best ever, but if he floats your boat thats fine.

Everytime I put down money against Elway, he would blow some highly favoured team out of the stadium. Unfortunately I also lost money betting on him. If he was the best is arguable, but he was always entertaining, and you never turned off a game early.

BOB 'BOOMER' BROWN

hey guys:

You are forgetting the other two that were enshrined Saturday; Carl Eller and Bob "Boomer" Brown.

I remember when the Raiders got Brown halfway through training camp. He came into make an impression. He did. He blocked the goal post down. It was the boomer that had a lot to do with the developement of Uppy and Shell.

Lets see now. From that era, the Raiders have a tight end, a wide receiver, two tackles a guard and a field goal kicker in the hall. Ray Guy should be the first punter, and I can't believe that Kenny isn't in yet. When he left the Raiders, he had the highest completion percentage of any quarterback in history.

I never saw those guys play sorry for not naming them. John Elway when he lost in his first three SuperBowls, had no running game. After Davis came Denver became a serious threat on the run. Joe Montana most people would say is the greatest QB of alltime BUT Joe had a great supporting cast, while John Elway played on some pretty bad Denver Broncos teams. But I will say they are both 1 and 2, but where should Dan Marino be? Nobody has passed for more yards then him, also Warren Moon, Johnny Unitas, Terry Bradshaw, Steve Young, Troy Aikman, Joe Thiesman, Joe Namith, Jeff Hoistetler, Phil Simms, Brett Farve, Jim Kelly and Jim McMahon where do they belong in the best QB's of alltime?

As far as great OB, I would say Johnny Unitas of the Colts. Called his own plays and led the colts to championships, I don't recall how many.

For Running Back, I would say Jim Brown of Cleveland. Brown held most records, never missed a game and retired at 30.

The mention of Warren Moon reminds me of a Chicago/Houston game in Chicago where the color commentator was going on about the cold weather being a disadvantage for Houston's passing game when the other commentator deadpanned back that it got pretty cold in Edmonton where Moon occasionally passed for a 1000 yds a game.

I guess it was funnier at that moment.

Going to disagree with you Scott. John Elway ranks as one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time but I wouldn't call him the best. When it comes to racking up the championships the nod definately goes to Otto Graham fo the Cleveland Browns who played in the forties and fifties. As for runningback then the greatest is Jim Brown who came to the Browns a few years after Graham retired.

Warren Moon, Johnny Unitas, Terry Bradshaw, Steve Young, Troy Aikman, Joe Thiesman, Joe Namith, Jeff Hoistetler, Phil Simms, Brett Farve, Jim Kelly and Jim McMahon where do they belong in the best QB's of alltime?

Warren Moon passed for over 70,000 yards when you combine his CFL and NFL numbers.

Terry Bradshaw was a great passer at a time when running the ball was pretty much everything.

Joe Namath is overrated.

Jeff Hostetler was an average quarterback.

Phil Simms was better than Hostetler.

Brett Farve is one of the all-time best.

Jim Kelly is too despite four straight losses in the Super Bowl.

Jim McMahon was too injury prone to be great.

Jeff Hostetler did win a SuperBowl with the NY Giants as their starting QB, and he had some good seasons with the Los Angeles Raiders. However John Elway did have the most come from behind wins in NFL historty that's clutch! That's why he is either 1 or 2 with Joe Montana.

Winning a Super Bowl doesn't guarantee a QB greatest. Take Trent Dilfer for instance. There are many more quarterbacks that would rank ahead of Hostetler. In no particular order, Joe Montana, Johnny Unitas, Otto Graham, YA Tittle, Dan Fouts, Warren Moon, John Elway, Phil Simms, Rich Gannon, Dan Marino, Len Dawson, John Hadl, Arnie Herber, Sid Luckman, Sonny Jurgenson, Norm van Brocklin, Jim Kelly, Jim Plunkett, Ken Stabler, George Blanda, Fran Tarkenton, Steve Young and more whose names aren't coming to mind.

As for Elway, yah one of the best but I wouldn't pick him as the best.

Being a St. Louis Rams fan I watched today's game between the Chicago Bears and the St. Louis Rams and man do the Rams need help with recievers dropping balls, the Rams lost 13-10 in OT, Looker dropped many balls, Chris Chandler looked decent playing the quarter he did, and Marc Bulger looked average. Mike Martz was pissed many times shaking his head, Marshall Faulk did not play, Jackson the rookie out of Oregon State did and looked so so.

Martz should be shaking his head on the unemployment line, not the sidelines. I'm a Rams fan to, but he took a great team and made them average. The only time Faulk got a decent number of touches in their SB loss against New England was in the 4th quarter, when it was too late.

I think if Mike Martz does NOT atleast get the St. Louis Rams to the NFC Championship game he will be gone. I don't think St. Louis will win the NFC West this season, I think the Seattle Seahawks will win the division and go on to the SuperBowl this season, Matt Hasselback has looked really good in training camp, and I think Shaun Alexander is going to break out this season, not to mention Winstrom signing with the Seahawks. I've got season tickets to the Seahawks this season so I'm really looking foward to seeing this team play @ home this season as they went 8-0 last year @ home.
