iPhone SIRI question.

The last iPhone I had was pre SIRI so I'm not used to it.

Back story. My cousin was having a conversation with his wife in his truck. He had his iPhone hooked to Bluetooth.

He made a comment along the lines of "You should be able to just shoot people like that!"

SIRI said, before his wife could answer. "THAT IS NOT NECESSARY".

Do you not have to "turn" SIRI on? Or is it ALWAYS on?

SIRI can be turned off and on in settings.

It defaults to on all the time. I personally never use it unless I have had a few drinks and I want to ask her really rude questions to see how she replies.

Siri changes over time...it is always listening for "hey Siri" and replies. I use it for setting my timer from across the room, maps or making calls or texting.... if you're rude she won't cooperate with you :laugh:

I have had (2) iphones for about five years now and the main reason I got it for the first time was my kids. They saw another relative talking to Siri and wanted it as well.

So after bringing my first phone home (and recently second one as well) for first five minutes or so it was nothing but, "Sir, you are stupid", "Siri, you sound terrible." "Siri, do you fart?" well... you get the picture. By the way, that was kids saying things to Siri, not me.

Personally, I have never used it. Siri is nothing but basically a voice driven search. It can be turned off. Its accent can be changed. You can either male or female version of it. Etc. On new iphones, you have to say Hey Siri and it recognizes your voice.

Just gadgets to sell stuff, but like I said, I personally don't recall using it, ever!.

oh, I also use it when working out, it can be used to read and reply to messages handsfree I do love that I don't have to stop what I am doing to answer my phone

I did it and got all those but here's one you didn't list "Life: a principle or force that is considered to underlie the distinctive quality of animate beings. I guess that includes me." :laugh:

Just going by most of the replies it looks like you have to preface any question by actually saying "SIRI".

So why would it answer a question that wasn't directed at it? Or without engaging it?

Seems weird ... and intrusive.

On the new iPhone you have to say hey Siri to get a response, but originally anything would get a response. That’s why I always disable Siri.

I found out by accident that siri is almost as good as shazam for identifying songs.
Next time you hear a song and want the name, go "hey siri, name this tune" she'll get it 99 out of a hundred
