So I tried intermittent fasting before and lost some weight but not as much as I wanted, trying to lose body fat and have my ABS show. ( yes kind of a selfish thing , I guess )

This is working for me as of late

Drinking 8 glasses of water a day
Drinking black coffee
Went Whole Food Plant Based Diet ( wfpb ) Not Vegan, still eat eggs just no meat
Eat till I am full, stopped calorie counting.
Lots of air roasted french cut potatoes, no oil ( I thought I would gain weight on this diet but have lost weight and don't feel hungry, had 4 medium size spuds last night )
Light exercise ( 3 times a week )
Down 6 lbs in the last 2 weeks :)

Intermittent fasting is a weird fad. It's mostly about decreasing the amount of time in the day that you can eat, meaning that you eat fewer calories per day, which is really what helps.

Try to ignore all these interesting sounding fads, like paleo diet, keto, whatever. It's all about exercising a little bit more, eating a little bit less, and drinking more water.

The most important thing to worry about is making sure that you get on a diet that you can reasonably sustain, which is why incremental changes to your diet is better than sudden changes. Diets you aren't wholy comfortable with will increase the temptation of going on a binge, which would make it less effective in the long run. The reason is that weight loss does take some time. It's very likely the 6 lbs you lost is mostly water weight. You want a diet that you can maintain for at least a few months.

Seems like you are doing a good job on the diet, though I don't see why you need to eat an excess of potatoes and eat no meat (unless you're against eating meat). It seems like your short-term fitness goal is having abs. Honestly, I would include more protein in your diet, as it is more filling, and up the exercise, especially in your core.
Good tips, I don't do paleo, keto, etc. Never had the urge to binge. Went WFPB a few months ago, mostly for health reasons, lower BP :)

Yes still have eggs and fish and some protein powder.

Biggest change is I gave up on sugar and packaged foods!!!.

Cheers,

Corym

Tried fasting as a quick way to lose weight fast. Started the first week with a 18/6 Hours fasting window, second week 20/4, third week 20/4 but only one meal a day. Honestly I felt a lot better than I thought I would. I also ate most items I wanted to but obviously no deep fried or sugary foods. In the end I lost around 13 Lbs.

To the OP, well done Corym. Always good when a fellow pooner gets his health on. Raises the bar of the pack if you know what I mean!!

Back when I was prepping for Divorce #2 which I knew was going to be brutal (it was), I cheated and threw money at the lose weight thing. Signed up with a naturopath to finally get rid of pollen allergies that had plagued me for 30-ish years and to get some energy back thinking I could then get back to enjoying more activity. First thing was food sensitivity testing. Not food allergies, sensitivity. Our bodies are bio reactors with a dynamic range of their utility. When they are running well, stuff gets processed fast and well. Think of when you were 22 and could eat that loaded pizza at 2am on top of 6 beers then feel pretty good by noon next day and NOT gain weight. As we move on in life, the bio reactor starts processing other things than what it should be and if you are fueling it with things it can't handle well, you lose dynamic range. Pollens come along and normally your body could handle it but if its working on other things, it can't so you have classic allergy symptoms and the accompanying loss of energy.

Cutting to the chase, 7 months into my regime of cutting out food that were 2+ to 3+ on the don't have chart, I was down 42 lbs, was energized, skin looking good and generally feeling great! In fact I was at my university weight and for the first in a long time was wearing 34" jeans. Got through the divorce, handled the stress moved on and am generally staying with what keeps me feeling good. A plus was being able to say to my friends who said "holy fuck man, looking good, what have you been doing?" and I would say, "single man sex my friend, lots of it".

For me, its listening to what my body tells me the next day after eating anything. If I feel good its on my keep list. If I feel bad its off. Water. I go through 6 to 10 refills of my funky crazy cap water bottles of water. Work out if it works for you but at a minimum be active every day and a few times a week be active for a few hours each day. And sleep. Get your 7+ hours.

It will be mere months and the babes will be over you!!

I can still do this in my late 30’s. just need a bit more cardio and i’m still fine. this whole notion of worse hangovers as you get older seems a bit of a myth to me.

My first 48 hour fast was WILD. I thought I'd feel weak and listless but instead I had more energy than ever. Which kinda makes sense from an evolutionary POV, since if you're hungry, your body gives you more energy to go out and get food.

At hour 40, I was bouncing off the walls, madly googling for local buffets, lol.

Easiest, best way to lose weight - Eat anything you want that's reasonably healthy, but only eat 2 or 3 meals over the course of a day, and no snacking, unless it's on a few peices of carrot or celery.

Increase your activity level. This is what actually determines weight loss (or gain).

Boom, no fuss, no muss and youll lose weight without even trying. Takes a bit longer than on some crazy diet, but it becomes a way of life, rather than a short-term plan you can't wait to get off of, and start binging, once you've reached some goal,

I stuck with 16/8 for the last week and ate without counting calories. Thinking I would gain weight, next morning, I was pleasantly surprised to see my weight had gone down :)

According to my BMI, it is in the normal range but not going to relax, sticking with my plan, eat healthy, exercise, no junk food!!!

Down 6 pounds since early March, almost to my goal weight :) it was a combination of IF, Calorie Counting, WFPB Diet and drinking lots of water. Not going to lie, it is a lot of work and feeling chillier since losing my body fat.

I'm on board with the whole "eat well and stay active" thing. There's an allure for diets because "eat well and stay active" is a sustained and long term solution, whereas diets are supposed to provide short term results (not to say they are effective long term... they usually aren't). With the exception of body building (bulking/cutting), I would refrain from diets.

In all fairness to OP, he did say he wanted his abs to show, which is cutting, so all the power to him.

I wouldn't call it a diet, it is more of a change in when you eat.

Normally I never eat breakfast, I just eat between 12pm and 8pm.

As written in your original post... you do infer change in what you eat (and perhaps exercise regimen), which is what diets are from what most people would consider. Call it whatever I suppose... glad it works for you.

I have foond the most impactful and sustainable things for me are:
- lose the breakfast. Have a coffee, and a green smoothie with veg protein powder if hungry. Eggs naked 2-3/wk. Fast until 11-noon if not hungry
- have substitutes for all the bad stuff: tea or mio + water vs soft drinks, veggie sticks and humous vs chips and dip, nuts or anything vs bread/wheat/carbs, fish vs. beef.
- don’t have treats, processed shit food, and anything that you buy in the middle of the supermarket (except frozen and canned veggies). Shop the perimiter!
- weights and play vs. Workouts and excercise
- step on the scale every day, and plot a point on the graph 1/week.

Diets come and Go. Lifelong decisions and routines with regular check points work best for me.

Good for you :)

Ive also made several changes to what goes into, & on my body.

Potatoes are quite good for you. I boil them, remove the skin and then bake them, and add a tiny bit of butter and seasoning afterwards. ( cooled boiled water goes to my plants)

Chick peas also really help with the feeling of fullness. I thrown hemp seeds into almost everything I eat, because I felt faintish after 48 hours of no meat. I had to increase protein levels quite a bit as i ate a fair amount of meat.

I've produced a vegan in my family so I've actually gotten pretty good over the years with making Non dairy(meat free) sauces, & dressings which helps for limmiting dairy intake, which I've also done recently. This is experimental & primarily due to skin irritations.

I've tried to go to black coffee, but it didnt work, although Ive managed to get about 50 % there. Maybe I'm just not trying the right black coffee, as I am used to drinking Starbucks, so any recommendations would be great.

I also cut meat out again recently, This is a first for me in many many years, but I was a vegetarian as a child until I 16, and by choice as I was the only one in the family at the time.
Now a days there are so many more vegetarian and vegan options which makes the shift much easier.

I consume alot of Raw fruit, Veggies, Nuts

I also eat whenever I'm hungry. I dont have any routine for food intake, but I do drink a glass of water before i eat anything.

The only cleanser I use on my face is Dove for sensitive skin soap. No other facial cleansers besides soap, and a basic eye make up remover.

Once in a while if I feel like my skin is dry I'll apply a moisturizer, but its not part of any daily skin care routine, and I never put it on directly after washing my face.

I stretch daily & exercise when i feel like it, and legitimatley to break a sweat, because I think it makes my skin glow. :)

I dont step on a scale anymore.

H2o H2o H2o H2o H2o. lots of it.

I exfoliate my skin once a week with a rice flour mask.

I also use a few other facial masks of which I make myself with natural, organic ingredients.

Basically if its not edible, or safe for consumption, the bare minimal will touch my skin.
