</font><font class="newsstory">The cold snap we're currently experiencing is
good news for local ice wine makers. Most wineries already have harvested or
are expected to take off grapes this weekend for their 2004 vintages.
Growers only need the temperature to dip to minus eight degrees Celsius
before grapes can be picked for the premium wine. Summerhill Estate Winery
expected to hire about 80 people to pick 80 tons of grapes at it's Chute
Lake and Westbank vineyards over the weekend. The Kelowna winery is the
largest ice wine producer in B.C. and could realize $5 million in revenue.
Quails Gate Winery on Boucherie Road has already produced 650 cases of the
premium ice wine from picking that took place during a cold snap in
November. Some of that inventory will be exported to Japan and Taiwan.
