Here's something I've always suspected...

Illegal Downloaders

I've always suspected this was the case. P2P downloads let me evaluate music, and if I really like it, I will go out and gladly spend the coin for the CD. The music industry, a.k.a. RIAA, is so paranoid, they are claiming fictitious losses to justify shutting down networks, instead of supporting them, and in doing so, perpetuate their chronically mis-managed marketing strategies.

What a bunch of pussies. They would prefer you throw logical and sane caution to the wind, and take a chance on some of the crap they are flogging, all under the banner of intellectual property.

I think the real reason why the record industry is losing money is because most of the music they're selling SUCKS.

I'm personally sick of hearing Limp Green Chili 41, Nelly-Cent Peas, and Britney Carey Stefani all the time, and I'm sure there's plenty of others who feel the same way.

The recording industry is full of fucktards who want it all their own way. You know, before the advent of the recording device musicians and singers actually made their living by PERFORMING. Now, most of these talentless dick and dickless heads want to cut a track, make a CD, film a video and live off the proceeds forever while they go back to pumping gas and/or their sisters. Suggestion for ya, Regis - get out on the road and perform your music and let people pay to hear it if it's so frickin' good, but don't expect to get paid every time I buy a blank CD or my dentist plays your tuneless crap to take my mind off the drill.

Like i said in another thread, the current pop music the major companies are trying to flog --- and on which they depend for their profits --- totally sucks. Try backing some real musicians, and push their product. It worked in the past, where pop music consisted of music both horrendous and great --- and where you didn't always know exactly what style you would hear on a pop station's next song.

The best musicians have staying power. Check out the latest Eagles Farewell Tour from Melbourne... some of the best picture and sound quality you will find on a DVD anywhere in the English speaking world ;). Good music is timeless. I find myself "losing myself in the moment" with my best discs over and over again.

On that Eagles DVD, I just finished listening to Hotel California, one of the most played tracks of all time, but I just can't get sick of it. It's the 4th version of it I have, and it's amazing that the Eagles can put a new spin on the song with each performance and each is different, yet special in their own way. Don Henley is playing drums and cymbals with both hands, foot is playing bass drum, and he's doing most of the vocals. Man, that must be tiring over the duration of the concert!!!

On another note, the new Alanis Acoustic version of Jagged Little Pill came out to all stores today and is only $10 at Future Shop. I bought mine when it was available at Starbucks only ($19, but well worth the premium for the 6 weeks of exclusivity :)). The recording engineer didn't do the best job on the location of the mic for the vocals. It's a bit too close to her which leads to a bit of excessive syballence, but overall, the music is beautiful. Very heartfelt. If you're sick of all the pop crap, give these 2 albums a try.

Happy listening!

They(RIAA?) tried to fine people in Canada too, until the supreme court ruled against it because they looked at the "losses" and determined them to be less than 1%, which could account for many things, not necessarily P2P sharing. If someone was downloading, burning and selling CD's then yes, that is copyright infringement. That being said I hear they are still trying to appeal the ruling so they can give our 12 year olds $35,000 fines like they do in the US. I hope it doesn't happen!

I just downloaded Limewire and it works so much better than Kazaa or Bearshare, 99% of the new songs I downloaded worked which is amazing...just FYI.
