Crowded places (e.g. New York, London, Beijing, Tokyo) are where the jobs and opportunities are. It was true 2000 years ago (e.g. Rome), 300 years ago (e.g Paris) and still true today.

Where there is wealth, there is a supporting infrastructure of culture (e.g. cuisine, music, theater, dance, museums, sports...and ehrm...SPs, lol) because a higher population/wealth makes those pursuits viable. Even if someone is not well-off, they can easily access all of those cultural opportunities. Also in today's world, you're more likely to find better healthcare in cities than isolated towns.

Let us not forget that the cultivation of earth is the most important labour of man. When tillage begins, the other arts will follow. The farmers, therefore, are the founders of civilzation.

I think that nature will adjust to keep an even balance of population and sustainability of life on the planet. Over population in the animal kingdom is taken care of by disease, increased predation etc. Why should the human race be any different.

There are a veritable SHITLOAD of too many people on the 3rd rock from the sun and the current Socialist/Globalist plan is to channel them into developed countries.Trudeau's 50,000 Syrian refugees cost TAXPAYERS a bit over 500 MILLION.All of the ILLEGAL border crossers that have funneled into Canada from the USA have cost the TAXPAYER 250-300 MILLION.

Yeah the world is TOTAL SHIT in some countries and it sucks to be born there.MOVING the problem does not solve it.I would attach the "immigration gumball video" from Youtube but apparently factual information such as that has been censored on this forum....I am not allowed to post FACTUAL stuff like that.

Long story short take a look at the UK or Sweden or even Germany and see how mass immigration has worked out for those countries.....shit state of affairs I will say with society dealing with NO GO ZONES for the original populace of those countries not to mention the back door introduction of Sharia Law via those that have immigrated but have not meshed with Society.....Canada is about 15-20 years behind this.....and the current asshole who has his hand on the proverbial tiller is encouraging this.

Interesting theory Wetnose, how anyone outside of a major city is poor, and missing out on the culture. Don't tell all of the multimillionaires who live in beautiful homes on acreages beside lakes or stunning estates or wherever. When they set you straight it will burst your bubble, crushing your fantasy world that all the jobs and money are in major cities only. I'll keep it a secret from all of my wealthy neighbors so as to not upset them for not living in Toronto, Vancouver, or some major city.
I think you misunderstood what Wetnose was saying (unless I misunderstood). He is not saying rich people live in the cities and only poor people live outside. He is saying large cities with large populations attract the best entertainment, concerts, restaurants, vehicles sales, etc.. It's not to say you aren't going to find rich people living in Dryden Ontario, but you aren't going to find a world class symphony there or a Maserati dealership.

Your right...our eyes face forward, we are predators.
We consume everything we come into contact with, including the earth we live on....our population control is dictated by viruses, and each other, in large scale wars.
Most theatres of war are started by division of lands, for political reasons , or to acquire more resources to consume.

so I guess that brings up the question,
is nature already coming into play culling us off,
record heat waves, killing off the elderly,
a quake in Indonesia killing a hundred,
wild fires, etc eetc,

I agree nature has a way,
but the way it works, is,
over population of a species
then a crash, and a drastic under population
and the cycle continues.
you think we would be smarter then that.

big cities attract everything, wealth and poverty culture and crime, and I suppose vice,

and I guess it depends on what you see as culture and or entertainment for a smaller center,
places like santa fe new mexico. sort of in he middle. but you can't see a major sports team,
but they have a thriving arts and music scene, same with Austin

you want a Maserati dealership, St Moritz has one, I think there population is five thousand.
who wouldn't say St Moritz isn't class and culture up the waza at five k in pop

jakson hole Wyoming
its more about money.

and there is too much of it in too few hands.

100 million more people annually; nature isn't culling us yet. Look for mass famine (followed by plague) when large aquifiers and rivers start to run dry.

Global warming and rise of temperatures across the globe. Increase in natural disasters (earthquake, hurricanes, flash floods, floods, snowstorms etc). Increase in population especially in 3rd world countries, mass movements of people from Africa to Europe in the Mediterranean.

In the late 60's the Cdn Federal government instituted the transfer payments (have provinces to give to the non-have provinces) to prevent migration of workers across the country to keep population movement to a minimum and keep a stable population in Quebec and Ontario.

International immigration was limited in the past because of 2 oceans and how cold it was in Canada. But you could come if you have money...

Now people from these 3 rd world countries are coming to Canada, because we are a socialist country and because the US sees them (refugees) as a threat to their future (to maintain the status quo- population) as a drain on their resources. Canada needs the immigration because of aging baby boomers and there are less people to look after the aging baby boomers.

The people (refugees) going to Europe are looking for a better life. Europe is a socialist state, but is now becoming overburdened with these refugees.... Cant afford them.

Canada has lots of land area, but it is cold and hard to settle the far north of Canada. The problem up north continues with the melting permafrost as that will change the northern landscape. (scientist think the permafrost will release alot of methane into the atmosphere contributing more to global warming).

Canada is a resource based economy (mining, logging etc), it has some manufacturing (think on a global scale), but that is on the southern reaches of Canada in the bigger cities. Jobs/income. How will the government pay for it??

To maintain Canadians quality of Life, whats the stopping point. No more refugees? The situation can only spiral down from here. Send them back because they are unacceptable??

I was in Japan in the early 70's and that is where I noticed the crowding of people. The I took an economic course in college at the same time and studied Robert Malthus. With the talk at that time about pollution and the environment I knew that human life was going down a rocky road unless ZPG(Zero Population Growth) became the focus. I chose not to have children for this reason myself and lost a lot of girlfriends along the way who were hell bent on having them. With no major wars for 70 years, advance of medicine and such there is no natural method of keeping the numbers down. I always tell people "I liked this planet in 1970 when there was only 3.6 billion humans on it".

Like T.R.Malthus said ... war, famine, and epidemics act as controls on population.

a thousand dollars for a tent in a backyard in Vancouver,
just saw that

and last week, the city of San Fran hires a crew to the toon of 800 k a year I believe to clean the shit off the sidewalks.
aw human shit,
San Fran is a sanctuary city, and has put up with a great influx of people,
a few months ago ran into a guy who was there, and said its a disgusting place, homeless everywhere,

im not sure the issue is too many people,
but we need an allocation of resources and standards of living
that is the biggest problem we face,
I remember an article, parts of Vancouver the houses are thirty percent empty, wealthy that only use the house a few weeks a year if at all.

we really need to get a grip on the inequities the extremely wealthy and the extremely poor,

a couple of the wealthiest people have more wealth then some countries more then half of Canada more then a few states combined,
does anyone really need hundreds of billions of dollars.

watched the show all the money in the world.
Getty put all his money in a trust too avoid taxes,

I kind of have the impression, that gates buffet etc etc, etc,
despite all there claims of charity and not passing it on to their kids
are doing the same, hiding behind charity foundations yeah they give some to charity,
but I think its more about brand and imagine and tax write offs and loop holes.
smoke and mirrors,
to convince the rest of us there good guys.

I have not read this whole thread, so someone may have already suggested this, but the character Thanos came up with a simple solution to over population in the movie "Avengers: Infinity War".

Skynet had a great plan for population control until that pesky do gooder Sarah Conner and her son interfered.

There was another movie called "Downsized" with Matt Damon that explored how society would change if humans were all miniaturized by a factor of 10. A can of coke could now last for a month!
