"Things have come a long way" ....but not quite for everyone....

I saw plenty of "new Canadians" dressed like that this past summer when I went to Cultus Lake Waterpark. Stunningly gorgeous ladies who could have been Victoria's Secret models. I suppose thats why their husbands wanted them to stay so covered up while swimming lol.

I don't think so...some women just don't feel comfortable being half naked in public, especially those from different cultures where they are taught to dress modestly. Also, some women don't like the attention either.

It may not always be the husbands. I've worked with some guys who have moved here and their attitude is they want their wives to feel free to adopt western dress etc. They come here because they don't support the oppression in their home countries, but it can be a little difficult to speak out without having a "visit" from the authorities. Don't forget that some of these women have been living in countries where it is illegal to expose skin etc. They've lived that way their entire lives, so making a change (if they want to) can be some what daunting. For some it may be a gradual process, for others they're out buying a "Wicked Weasel" as soon as they leave the airport. Perhaps what they were wearing at the water park was 'daring' for them.
