During a walk about at Costco today I saw a sectional I liked as well as a dining set and I decided to splurge on them come this weekend....in proper preparation I checked online at the most logical choice...budget rent a truck/car...I click on all the appropriate info and cant find a truck I require so I look at all the individual locations....and the phone number for all the locations is the same....a switchboard as it turns out....a switchboard that has no fucking clue that their number is the one listed for ALL of the locations...a switchboard that could not even provide me with the information of the actual rental cost of a 20 foot moving truck.....in short....a switchboard that is entirely fucking useless in the grand scheme of things given the fact that they wanted to give me a phone number that would cause me to call them again......totally fucking useless.....and the website is just as bad if not worse...it can show you pictures of a 20 foot moving truck that is supposedly better than what the competition offers but it cant actually give you a rental price...which = USELESS FAIL.

End of my rant.

I ended up going with UHAUL....made the reservation the other day and showed up this morning....got the truck and went shopping.....picked up the sectional/dining set and rolled back home.....wrestled them into the house and removed the old furniture....made a trip to the dump and returned the truck...total cost was less then $80 including rental/insurance/milage/fuel and the dump fee....total win for the fact that I got it done in 1 trip.......went for lunch with the friend who helped me and I picked up the tab and then back to my place to assemble.....the sectional took 1 hour including removing the components from the packing materials and putting it togeather...pretty good IMO.....the dining table was a bit of work but not too bad....the chairs were a nightmare....a very stupid design that made IKEA chairs seem like lego but at the same time they are of higher build quality and far superior in esthetic quality....we only got 2 of them done.....I could have press-ganged my friend into finishing the other 2 but I had mercy on him....and at the next poker game he gets a free pass for dinner and I am going to pay for his first buy-in.

A lot of effort for a day off and I did not get to play golf but I am very pleased with the new furniture and how it looks as well as how comfortable it is...total cost for a new kickass reclining sectional/dining table with truck rental and lunch + deffered poker game =$1550.....a small dent in the warchest I was happy to pay......:)

Easiest way to get a super cheap or free rental frm Uhaul.
When you returm it, ask just hw cheap they will go, if you don"t like the price, tell them you will be right back, you just keep to stop at the DOT office or closest weigh scale.
Since they know their trucks are deathtraps, the cost of the fines will far exceed the price of the rental, they will likely work with you to not lose their truck.
Hehe, worked a few times :)

Well I sure hope you got a "normal" size truck to move, not like my huge moving van. Glad to hear you got it all done. And now you can relax with the remote and put your feet up and enjoy.
Sorry you missed out on golf.
It was a 14 footer and more than able to do the job.......I got a lot done today and I am greatfull for the help I received.....and I plan to pay it forward to him......no golf today nor most likely tomorrow.....tis a small sacrifice for what I got done today......the recliner is super comfy though :)

And thank you Angie for your well meaning thoughts :)

I have used both Budget and UHaul numerous times. Last time Budget was way over priced compared to the UHaul for the size of truck I needed at the time. I was out of the country and needed a vehicle on a certain day. What I didn't realize was UHaul calls you 24 hours ahead of time to reconfirm. I was not there and when I went to get my truck it was not there . . .. Oh shit.

Anyways haven't been back to budget since.

On a sidenote I got email confirmation for my truck rental.....as a bonus upon taking the truck back me and my friend saw a total hottie renting a truck.....I tried to flirt but was cock-blocked by the rental agent.....this memory/encounter will no doubt be brought up at the next poker game as the gal was damn hot and at the same time a bit demure........my friend and I reflected on this several times LOL
