Yes Van has great restaurants.
And other things to do.
Some nice walks around false creek to.

And couldn't agree more on Drive the car that makes YOU happy to drive...not for flash. The idiots in a lambo or ferrari cannot open it up around Vancouver anyway. It would make more sense to own one of those if you lived in Kelowna where there is access to roads where they could wind it up occasionally.
I am soon trading in my bmw on a lincoln that i have ordered. Nothing wrong with the bmw but i drove a new Lincoln and it was so comfortable and spacious. It just floats down the hwy and makes a 4 hour drive feel relaxing and almost zen like, is why i am getting it. Nobody buys a lincoln for flash....they are more the Anti-flashy car brand.

People like to poke fun at Vancouver for its large Asian population, but comparing it with Hong Kong (yes, even property prices) is night and day. I don't know how serious I should take people when they make claims like that. Most of the time it's just an off-hand joke but it's made without much thought, similar to casual racism.

Hong Kong hotel prices are ridiculous. Almost as bad is Singapore, the English speaking Hong Kong.

Some time, over a glass of wine or other libation, I will fulfill my reputation as a modern day Scheherazade & tell you the story the people of the Semiahmoo First Nation tell of how the White Rock came to be there...Of course, I can also give you the scientific explanation (Glacial erratic, etc...) but it ain't near as sexy! ;D
I'm very aware of the First Nations story of Semiahmoo, but I'd like to hear your version......and for the record, I happen to think Glacial shift movements ,and glacial deposited till....are sexy

Thanks all! Vancouver it is, and I will probably be picking Olympic village for its proximity to downtown for head office stuff, as well as its centralized location for quietness / food availability/ parking / etc..

I just got in town, I thought it's supposed to be rainy? Why is it so hot?! Lol

Fine choice. Welcome to Vancouver. Good luck finding a decent rental. The vacancy rate is still terribly low I think.

Sorry, not sure what the relevance is here when Vancouver is being compared to Hong Kong... ?
"Hong Kong hotel prices are ridiculous", implying in context that they are worse than Vancouver. You had spoken of "property prices" between the two. That lead my thoughts to something re prices that i know a little bit about.

a warm welcome, JohnnyBoi.

just had a hunch you'd pick OV, and I think you made a good choice.
food/pub: Steel Toad and Craft Beer Market though it can be a bit loud if you want a quiet atmosphere.
Tap and Barrel is also good. awesome outdoor patio when weather warms up a bit.
athletic looking CBC gals taking purse dogs for walks or walking in their lulu's. mmmm mmm!!

craft beers (we're spoiled here): Faculty Lounge, 33 Acres, Brassneck, Main Street Brewing Co.

coffee fix (and we're addicted here): JJBean and you have one there in your hood. or walk up towards Broadway/Main to find
Kafka's, Bean Around The World, another JJBean, Federal Store, Milano, Elysian.
past 25th Ave. you have Continental and Matchstick.

it only feels warm because you're coming from a -10 zone that is TO.
you're probably laughing that people still have parkas and oversized jackets on? that's the way Vancouverites are. pretty soft
compared to other provinces.

enjoy the city, man.

Thanks a lot everyone!

Yeah just finalizing some apartment details. Funny thing is; I am not a huge beer person... I do enjoy a nice whiskey over a balcony as the sun sets (or in my case, often the sun has already set b/c my job is intense af).

But I am willing to try! We don't get as many "yoga-pants girls" in the EC but I am interested in seeing them in their natural habitat.

Honestly though, I'd be too self-conscious about not passing out whilst I jog to check them out on any trail, but it's a good motivator to get me off my ass on my day off. That or I could find a lovely lady and do some "cardio" for an hour or two.. Lol.

It's like a VIP personal training session if you think about it.

Congrats JonnyBoi! Based on your situation, you made the right choice.

For me, if I could live and work in Langley. I would totally do that. Gas is cheap there, Langley and its surrounding area has sufficient restaurants/shopping for the basics. As take8easy can attest, there's an emergence of lovely ladies doing incalls there as well. I also find there aren't as many awful drivers and I like how I don't always have to parallel park (I was in a bad car accident 3 years ago and I have had neck issues ever since). It's close to the border and not all that far away from Vancouver (excluding rush hour). If you have kids, there's some really good schools as well.
