This is an interesting thread because it speaks to the difference between men and women and directly toward the latent sexism men have. Charlee related a violent incident in her life and most guys here put on their "there there dear..you must do this..hat" Which of course caused her to lash out because she wasn't asking for advice especially about the cops. This is latent sexism. The correct response was the empathetic and supportive response Charlee got from her gf Lady Vanessa.
I was talking to a friend of mine, who travels the province as a salesperson, about this incident and to help guys understand this better, this is what she had to say:
Man: Had dinner with client. They talk about sports, ATV'ing, make lewd comments about the waitress and hostess, bitch about their wives, make inappropriate sexually subtle comments to the waitress and hostess as they get a little more drunk.
Man goes back to motel room, this is a man camp town and there's some yahoos drinking outside another room, man goes to his own room hoping these assholes won't go too late, takes a shower, jerks off to some internet porn, calls the wife, then goes to sleep.
Woman: Has dinner with client, tries to ignore client leering at waitresses ass, tries to ignore inappropriate comments about her appearance and creepy suggestive comments from a married man twice her age, to keep the conversation on business. Comes back home to motel room, yahoos are leering at her making her nervous and she hears some comments. They see her go to her room..shit they know where I am...there's a shitty little wooden door between her and the yahoos, she locks the door, pulls the desk across it to help barricade it, can't sleep a fucking wink because she's frightened that every noise is a drunken rapist murderer trying to break in. At breakfast she endures the same assholes leering at her while she's trying to enjoy some coffee and toast.
So we decided to try to put this in to perspective gentlemen. A 200 lb pit bull that you've never seen before comes to your room. This is a smart pitbull, it can read your phone, steal your identity, rob you or out you on social media to family, friends , coworkers. You have no idea if it will bite your hand off or rip off your face, or roll over and be a big playful suck. You also don't know if the big playful suck will suddenly turn vicious without warning. So how do you feel about this? Afraid? cautious? Need more information? Would you want to make some inquiries from others about the past behaviour of this pit bull? Would you perhaps want to spend a little more time getting to know this pit bull so you know what you're dealing with?
You see guys, women live with this everyday while most men don't give it a second thought. This is real and not too difficult to understand if you really try and you should not be too surprised if she asks for screening information.... and for Chrissakes when a woman you know falls victim to this stop being Mr Fix up, nobody want's unsolicited advice and most women generally don't respond well to it, just be empathetic and supportive, that's being a real man.
