Banning McDonalds

Good idea.... in theory. But in practice it will never work as people will just find a substitute. People who eat McDonalds also eat at Pizza Hut, Taco Bell and feast on bags of Doritos.

I've always thought a better idea was to ban all food advertising unless the food in question met certain nutritional standards.

Also, eliminating the kid centred media tie-ins/cross overs/whatever it's called is good. To be rewarded for liking a Pirates of the Caribbean with a weekly/daily hamburger is just bad conditioning!

Besides, some of us are able to enjoy a sausage and egg McMuffin from time to time without eating them every day. :p

this was someones response. Apparently, the Prince has some favourite pastry or something that's fattier than the Big Mac.

Fudd;583684 Chuck here is on the right wave length. Health Canada should start enacting laws in this country ASAP.[/QUOTE said:

Dumb, plain and simple. There are so many things that should be banned yet in moderation they are fine. Why do we have to protect people from themselves? Personal responsibility seems to be disappearing fast.
You don't have to be a nutrionalist to realize that eating McDonalds 6 days a week will affect your health.

ahh thats a whole lotta poppycock... I just looked up the cals in a big mac on the McDs site and its friggen 540 cals! Thats a LOT more than what that silly article says... i just hate false claims like that.
*edit* oh I see, they are comparing it to grams... so a Big Mac is 200+ cals for 100grams... pfft stupid decieving measuring system. lamerz.

As for banning McD's, i have the same opinion of advertising as i read earlier in the thread. I just don't go there... there are WAY better places with WAY bigger and better burgers that are a lot more healthy than mcds

What is needed is a Ministry to regulate the foods we eat just like they regulate the drugs we take.

As for the health issues, check this out about the rate of diabetes in Ontario.

http://www.theheart.org/article/773501.do

"We found that between 1995 and 2005 the rate of people affected has gone up by almost 70%"

I wonder how much of the increase is diet related?

I totally agree!

Though I think there is a slight chance that the 70% increase in diabetes cases could be slightly off, as there is more awareness of adult on-set diabetes so more people are being tested, hence the higher result. Previously, most who had it where unaware. Not saying it isn't on the rise though, as clearly it is.

I am of mixed views here. First, do we really need more gov't intervention?? And on the other hand, most people don't understand or don't believe the risks of junk food.

In the end it becomes a burden on the health care system. Either way we pay.

Sometimes when I'm feeling blue and a tad hungry, like today, I'll find myself stepping over the threshold into a MacDonald's. But then I'll look around - scanning the scene for hot lonely babes - and what I see are fat globs of pustulating losers and kids.

So I'll spin around on my sad hungry heels and high tail it over to the lounge at the old Hotel Vancouver where I slither into an over-stuffed chair, order me a couple of martinis and cheese platter and pretend that I'm important.

That's my solution to curbing the junk food addiction.
