Why hasn't Gillis made an offer for Ohlund. This guys has been a solid dman for us for many years, and I think he should retire a Canuck. Similar to what Scott Stevens was for the New Jersey Devils.

The Sedins are up as well. They're not first liners but solid second liners and I haven't heard much on that as well.

Wellwood is a restricted free agent and is a major upgrade over Brendan Morrison.

Luongo will be unrestricted two years from now. why not lock him up for another 5 years.

Ohlund was drafted with the expectation of being a high scoring player that can throw hits. He quickly changed into a defensive player, as the offensive part of his game struggled. Aside from the last few games, can you remember any big hits in the last 3 years? Or a game in which he threw more than perhaps 3? When was the last time you saw him block a shot? When was his last season where he was on the upside of the +/- ? He is overrated and well over paid. He isn't fit to carry Scotty Steven's jock

He was brought here to replace Matt Cooke.

And if he starts to flop next year?

And you're also assuming that he WANTS to be here for 5 years.

Not sure if Luongo wants to stay here after his contract is up. Luongo wont wanna stay here long term if we dont ever advance far into the playoffs. The twins are going to ask for way to much money for 2nd liners. I agree Wellwood is a good fit even though he's a bit flakey with his off season workouts. As for Ohlund ...id rather see a younger defenceman for the type of money Ohlund will demand.

KYG, you must be off your rocker! Ohlund only SEEMS to be solid in this crappy team; he won't even make the top 4 Defence on teams like Detroit, Anaheim, Montreal, etc.

Sure Ohlund's solid, but so's Mitchell, Samo, etc. --how dare you compare him to Scott Stevens for pete's sake!!! Now, that's a true leader anyone w/ a brain on this board would have him instead of Ohlund on your hockey team!

I think Wellwood's value is impossible to predict right now.
A month ago no team in the league wanted him, even for half his league minimum salary.

Flash ahead and he is on a scoring streak.

No he is not even close to what Stevens was for NJ Devils.

Mats would be a good fit in Vancouver.
Disagree; that's what they said about Messier ;) We all know what happened during his 3 years here; NOTHING.

Why on earth would you pay a 38 year old $10 million per, why not go for a real superstar, like a Malkin, Graborik, etc.? Sure, it'll be a tough trade, but at least you know you get a franchise player for 8-10 years!! Sundin, AT BEST, has 3 years left...

Sorry to rag on you, but you have no idea what you're talking about the Canucks, when you're in winnipeg!

1 or 2 players away???? you mean just making the playoffs or making to the Final Four? Sheesh....You must think this team can beat the Penguins, Canadiens, Red Wings, Sabres, Colorado...

Yes lets get Malkin. What an awesome idea. They should trade a third-round pick for him, that's what they would do if they were smart. I'm sure the Penguins will accept the trade offer.

Not sure we can trade for him. Always thought he had a no trade clause with his new contract. That's why he took less money to play on the same team with crosby.

In this league you believe franchise players are going ANYWHERE?

Comparing Sundin to Messier makes NO sense at all. Mess came here as leader and a draw for the fans. Sundin is still a top 10 points player.

Nobody said Linden was an NHL elite player. He is big in Vancouver because of the years he put in here and the work he did in the community.

Anyone that thinks Wellwood is anything but an average (AT BEST) player should give their head a shake. Fot the first time in his career he is on a bit of a streak and all of a sudden he is something worth talking about? Look at his history before you praise him as anything but a shitty player with some recent good luck. Any team could have claimed him on waivers and have had the Canucks pay half of his salary. Look where he is playing today  He is an injury prone lazy ass with no heart.

The Canucks need to focus on a fit for the Sedins (a la Anson Carter) and a big centre (Get rid of that fuckwhit Taylor Pyatt) that can stand in front of the net (a la Bertuzzi) and not get put on his ass by players half his size.

i hate being an arm chair coach but...

-1st off, enough with the sundin talk. there's a reason he was in anaheim awhile back. he's going to land in toronto. it will be brian burke's first order of business when he steps in as GM.

-ohlund will re-sign. after all, they can't get rid of the guy who modeled their 3rd jersey. he also has a no trade clause.

-i say fuck the sedins. mike gillis wont though. he'll drop a u-haul truck full of money in front of their lockers at the end of the season, and we can all watch them cycle the puck and make sexy passes that some dipshit linemate of the week won't be able to put in the back of the net. the crowd oooo's and ahhh's tom larcshied, or however the fuck you spell his last name, says something stupid and i die a little more inside.

-alex burrows replaced matt cooke. he does the same role, cheaper, more effectively and is the best bargain in the NHL right now. i cant wait to see what he signs for when free agency comes calling.

-how bout that wellwood kid? people think the canucks signed him in hopes of being able to contribute offensively, but the real truth behind his signing is that he's gone 121 games without taking a penalty. its true. look it up.

-last, but not least. Luongo? he's the face of the franchise now. they'll pass him a blank cheque he'll put some stupid number on it, and it'll be front page news for the province the day after the canucks go out in the first round.

Burrows was already on the roster, so he didn't replace anyone. The Canucks only needed one instigating grinder, so the higher priced one was traded. Wellwood was brought in to replace Matt Cook; to offer a more well rounded player instead of a one dimensional one.

I wouldn't say that Burrows does it better, just differently. Before players stepped into the Garage, they knew and feared Matt Cooke. They knew the likelihood of getting smashed into the boards and coming out of the game very sore was almost certain. Players cough up the puck rather than take a big hit from Cookie. Burrows will never instill that kind of fear, just frustration.

Trackstar, you're kidding right? Cooke doesn't send fear like the way a george larouque, Boggard "boogie man" from minnesota, Chris Simon would! And the guy's 5'8 (at best), are you saying players were scared of him than Parros of Anaheim?

All Cooke does, is just agitate, can't back up his chicken sh*t act, even his own coach called him out on that; Vigneault said 'in his days, players had to back up their actions'...lol, as soon as he said that, I knew he'd be traded, it was a well known fact that they didn't get along! good riddance

You don't watch or read hockey news much, do you? I'm not guessing here. Many players have stated this about Matt Cooke. It's not about fighting my friend, it's about the hits. He throws body checks like a fucking bull and lots of them.

5'8"? Dude, where do you get your info from? I have met Matt several times. I am just shy of 5'11" and he was looking me eye to eye. Chris Simon? Are you fucking kidding me??? People feared two things from him; fighting and getting their throats slashed. They sure as hell didn't fear his hits, which happened maybe once per game

come on BJ Hunter...

the only reason you and I feel this way is we have never met him several times...

the only thing players fear with the enforcers you mention is getting beat up...

how one dimensional...

you're right, all Cooke was in his last few years here was a gutless agitator...
