don't hate the player; hate the game

Mike Vick is from the ghetto and comes from a life that none of us (at least not me) care to have lived. He's made his way out with football but as the saying goes 'you can take the boy out of the ghetto but not the ghetto out of the boy'.

He cares little for these animals and probably believes anyone who has a problem with it can go f**k themselves. I feel for the dogs.

Mike Vick can scramble like no other, is an amazing athlete but a boy from the 'hood who'll never change as long as he believes he do do whatever the f**k he wants.

Everyday all around the world there are fights between roosters and cockfors and nobody seems to care. And if your asking yourself 'what's a cockfor?' you should probably not be on this board:D

It would be nice if this outrage wouldn't come from people who don't mind fucking children and women forced into prostitution in Thailand or Vietnam....

I call it selective compassion.

I do not advocate dog fighting and I think that, if it is proven that Michael Vick has broken the law, he should be punished and the NFL/Falcons should react accordingly. I am an advocate though of innocence until proven guilt.

I will also note though that I used to hunt and I used to fish. In looking back, I find both of these activities to now be inhumane. Deep sea fishing is an accepted activity by many and, to me, it is nothing more than a prolonged mental and physical torture of an animal. I am not sure why dog fighting is more cruel than this. However, there is very little mainstream advocation for putting a bullet in the heads of the thousands of people who engage in this activity each year. As a matter of fact, I can go on Yahoo and see hundred of photos of people proudly standing with the fish that they just drug out of the sea.

"For the record my 20 lb shitzu bichon is a bigger asshole than all Pits/staffies I've ever met. It all comes down to the person or asshole that keeps them. Unfortunately Pits have typically been "owned" by the lowest common denominator in civilized society, whether its a guy with a small dick and big muscles or a drug dealer of some sort. Having said that I know a
dealer that has a pit that's one of the nicest dogs I've ever met."

This is only true to a point. The history and breed of a dog does have a strong effect on its behaviour.

Much of this is covered in this three part documentary on the history of the dog. There is a portion on terriers and the history behind why that have a propensity towards biting and why their bites can cause more serious harm than those from other breeds.

Actually, I was quoting from a earlier post in the thread and commented on it. The portion in quotes is not from me. The comments just below it are from me.

As for being an asshole, I am sure there are people that think I am. Personally, I do not.

First post and this is what you come with. Crawl back under the rock and don't come out until you take your meds.

Well I still fail to see the relevence of so many of these posts. The attitude that animals are comparative to humans is without any merit. Anthropomorphism is the term used and is often descriptive of those with a mental illness. We as a race have used animals to serve as enertainment, friends, beasts of burden since the inception of husbandry. Whether it be racing, fighting, jumping or pulling a plow... We have killed animals without mercy for food and thought very little about it. We own animals , they are our possessions the same as your house, car or coat. I understand the emotion raised because so many of us have loved our pets but alas they are pets not people. It seems that many of you place a higher value on a dog than a human...and that is very sad state of affairs. And yes there is a correlation between people who torture animals and psychopathy, the problem with that comparison is that there is a huge difference between a troubled teen who slowly dismembers the neighbors cat and an organized sporting event.
Let me re-itterate that I find the idea of dogfighting completely repugnate but I do not see the anger this generates as logical or based in reality.
Seems to me that many of you would rather devote your time and energy to the promotment of the canine rather than human race. In my view that is the crime ...that you can look around yourself and see the human suffering of the world around you and then donate of yourself to pets...hmmmm...doesn't make alot of sense to me.

Kind of painting with a broad brushstroke for your first post ever, huh? I think Michael Vick is a lowlife scumbag who ought to be tossed in an eight foot deep pit with a couple of half-starved dogs and we'll see just how quick he can "scramble" then. However my outrage at his actions and my contempt for people who engage in cruelty to animal does not equate to me somehow supporting child prostitution in Southeast Asia. Perhaps you might want to consider engaging your brain before you make your second post. That's assuming you have one, of course.

Having sympathy for animals and objecting to their cruel treatment at the hands of man is not anthropomorphizing them ... it is having a basic understanding that they have as much right to live on this planet as do we humans. Even though that "great" work of fiction, the bible, claims that man was given "dominion" over the animal kingdom by this all wise, all seeing old man with a beard who lives up in the sky, that view is, not to point too fine a point on it, complete and utter horseshit. Other species have an intrinsic value that is no way related to what they can do for us. The idea of them being made to suffer for our entertainment is beyond reprehensible.

Go Vick! Wooooo!

ROFLMAO! They're fucking PIT BULLS!
Get your heads out of your asses. Those goddamn things aren't animals in my book. If you ask me, he's just found a creative way to help rid the world of a vermin that shouldn't exist in the first place.
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — To prosecutors, Michael Vick is a ruthless participant in a dogfighting operation.

To people living in the poor, crime-ridden neighborhood where Vick grew up, he is a generous benefactor who provides school supplies and athletic uniforms to local kids and buys air conditioners for housing-project residents suffering through Virginia's sweltering summers.

That is why they're sure that "Ookie," as he's known to childhood pals, is innocent.

"He's a good person. He's making a difference in the community," Misha Brown said Tuesday as she dropped off her children at the same Boys & Girls Club where the 27-year-old Vick honed the athletic skills that made him the No. 1 pick in the 2001 NFL draft.

Though Brown has never met the Atlanta Falcons quarterback, she sings his praises. Without his generosity, she said, her children and others in the East End neighborhood would not have had backpacks and other supplies for school last year
Ya. Put a bullet in his head. Gimme a fuckin' break.

They're living creatures. Give your head a shake. I know many owners and have been around a few pit bulls and they are great animals if you care for them properly. I will also own one someday. What he did was disgusting.

Vick is a joke and has had problems with the law in the past. Also this isn't the first time he has made the league look bad. I'm a huge NFL fan and I know, Vick has an awful attitude and doesn't care about the fans. Obviously he donates money, they all do.

Get your head out of your ass!!!
AHHHHHH........And now I see your point.....is debate or truth a little to hard for you to deal with? The thing is that we all have different viewpoints on all kinds of topics, intelligent conversation is how we see new points of view, learn and create a deeper and more satisfing human experince. Your comment was small and simple-minded. It serves no purpose other than to show you for who you are...I might not have a great deal of emotion for animals but I feel very sorry for you

This isn't going to be pleasant but I will say it anyway.
GET OVER IT!!!!
It is a dog...not a person....ok....
You eat beef, chicken and pork........use RAID to kill bugs and dont get all upset about it.....Animals are not people ....We have created the modern dog to serve us in many ways. Some pull sleds some catch crooks and some fight.....when we impose human attributes onto animals we demean ourselves and the creatures. Would I get into dog fighting? NO of course not. Do I hunt...You bet. I think people who grow up in the city have a very different viewpoint than those who have lived rurally and understand that animals are tools and property not our friends and loved ones.

Well i am going to catch some hate for this one I'm sure...LOL

Perhaps what you don't grasp is two dogs made to be vicious fighting each other for the pleasure of individuals, who bet on which dog is going to win. This is very much a far cry from slaughtering animals like cows, chickens, turkeys, pigs, etc to feed ourselves or spraying chemicals to kill insects. To me a person is likely short on empathy not to see the difference.
