Any recommendation on good restaurants and places I should visit during my stay here??
Is there any special events or festival going on?

Thanks xx

Lower Mainland, B.C.
The Observevatory, the restaurant at the top of Grouse Mountain has the best view in the city on a clear evening. If you have reservations at the restaurant, you get free admission to the Skyride, the gondola that gets you to the top of Grouse Mountain.

The Grouse Grind, a very famous Vancouver hike, which gets you up there also, though you may feel a little out of place eating at the Observatory in your hiking clothes. Btw, there are more causual places to eat on Grouse Mountain where your hiking clothes would not be so out of place. This is not a scenic hike btw, more like a very long stair climber exercise. The gain in elevation is almost .9 kilometers during the 2.9 kilometer hike. In other words, it is pretty steep! The vast majority of people do this "hike" as a form of exercise and not for the view. There are much more scenic hikes in Vancouver if that is your thing.

Enjoy Vancouver!

Apparently the surgical masks don't do much -

" "Leave the mask at home"
Many may be tempted to wear surgical masks while outside to avoid breathing in smoke particulates, but Carlsten said wearing an inadequate mask can actually be counterproductive.

"They don't really have a tight fit, and they increase the resistance to breathing, so you actually have to breath harder to get the air in because of, effectively, that barrier," Carlsten said.

"By doing that, you'll breathe deeper and get things in deeper."

The B.C. Centre for Disease Control says masks rated as N-95 — meaning they block at least 95 per cent of very small test particles — can reduce inhaled fine particulate matter up to ten times, but only if properly fitted. It only recommends mask use for workers who will be outside in smoky conditions for long periods of time."

Also, as for the cloud9 bit.. I've been there a few times, can't say I was impressed with the food =/

I'd recommended Chambar (Brunch and evening drinks) and Joe Forte's (Fresh seafood inside a charactered locale) and Black and Blue (yummy steak!) however =)

As far as special events you just missed the Celebration of Lights festival which had three nights of fireworks.

It's a far distance from downtown Vancouver but there's the Abbotsford Airshow going on this weekend. If you don't have a car I wouldn't even consider it though. You're looking at approximately 1 hour drive from downtown Vancouver. If you haven't been it's quite a spectacle although this year might not be as good due to the air quality.

I recently stayed by the Harbour downtown, it was beautiful. Yes the sky wasn't clear but still was beautiful. I ate a lot sushi, I went to Miku (maybe spelt wrong). I also tried some Mexican food out of a food truck. I noticed a lot of Starbucks incomparsion to Winnipeg, we have a lot of Tim Hortons.

Thank you everyone for the recommendations I'll check some out! I had the chance to walk around last night from Gastown to Stanley park! Saw the Canon shooting at 9pm. I'm already in love with Vancouver! I sat at the bar of a restaurant in Gastown and made friend with the person sitting next to me and the Barman haha. Great food and great people makes me happy!

Gia, I'm also staying in Coal Harbour and noticed all the Starbucks! They are everywhere!

If you have a full day, then rent a car and do a North Shore tour. Start with Deep Cove, then Lynn Canyon, Cleveland Dam (walk to the salmon hatchery if you wish), City view from Cypress Mountain lookout, Lighthouse Park, Horseshoe Bay, Shannon Falls, Tantalus lookout then catch the sunset from Porteau Cove. No admission for any of them and you'll cover lots of ground.

from horseshoe bay, take the small ferry (walk on, no need to drive) to Bowen Island and have fish and chips on the Steamship Company Restaurant's deck. Nice short and long hikes close to there as well.

Bed and breakfast in snug cove on bowen is quite a treat as well.

After driving to Horseshoe Bay where do you leave your car?
